    Sharp camshaft

    Sharp camshaft

When you choose to switch to a sharp cam, it is often to get power at the top of the rotation field, this often affects less power at the bottom. An engine often has a working range of around 6000 rpm. It can be e.g. from 900 rpm to 6900 rpm When fitting a sharp cam, the working area can be moved to ex. 2000-8000 rpm. Here you will then with a very sharp cam get a bad idle due to. the unstable filling of the cylinder and poor traction under 2000 rpm. But at high revs, the filling of the cylinder will be greater and you will get more power. Horsepower is the combustion pressure X rpm. my.

Many engines today are equipped with overhead camshafts which allows you to change camshafts very easily and quickly. There may be some cases where it may be easiest to just peel the engine out of the car. Before that, find out how to disassemble camshafts in your car.

If you are switching to very sharp knobs with the high lift, check that the valve spring and valve lifters can keep up with the higher lift. Adjustment of the valve clearance must always be taken care of when changing the camshaft. Always put on a new chain or timing belt. The camshaft must not be put in "dry" - ie it must have good engine oil on the bearing surfaces. Before starting the engine, turn the engine a few turns with a ratchet wrench. - Remember this must be done without spark plugs fitted, so you can check that there is enough space for valves, etc. When you turn the engine, it should run very easily. Give the engine and camshaft some time to "slide/fit" each other.
